Using this site

These terms apply to parikhlabs.com, including the free QR and barcode scanner and the Motel POS demo. The site is run by Parikh Labs (Tanish Gaurang Parikh). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you’re a client, your project agreement also applies and takes priority for that work.

The scanner

• The scanner is free to use and provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind.
• Reading a code can go wrong, for example with damaged, blurry or unusual codes. Results are for information only.
• The scanner doesn’t verify whether a code, invoice, ticket, certificate or ID is genuine.

Safety notes are guidance

• “Is it safe?” notes are general advice, not a guarantee.
• Check payments and links yourself before you act. Before you pay or sign in, check the details in your bank’s, payment provider’s or service’s own app.

Payments

• Pay with UPI app (Android) opens your UPI app with the details from the code. Copy payment code, Copy UPI ID, Copy IBAN and Save QR image put the code’s own details on your device for your bank or payment app. You confirm every payment in that app.
• We never process, hold or see a payment made from a scan.

Lookups and AI summaries

• Product and book details come from third-party open databases: Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts (data from Open Food Facts contributors, under the Open Database License, with contents under the Database Contents License) and Open Library, a project of the Internet Archive. We show each result with its source and don’t check or guarantee the data.
• What does this mean? answers are written by Anthropic’s Claude from the scanned text alone. Each ends with “Based only on the code’s text. May be wrong.” and can be inaccurate or incomplete. Product scores and nutrient levels are explained with fixed wording from the databases’ own definitions.
• Lookups are for reasonable personal use. Automated or bulk use, and attempts to get around the limits or the human check, are not allowed. We may limit or switch off lookups at any time.

Demos

• The Motel POS demo uses sample data and runs only in your browser.
• It is not connected to the live system and contains none of its data.

No affiliation

Parikh Labs is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any brand, bank, payment network or other organisation whose codes you scan or whose names appear in results. Names appear only because they are in the scanned code or in the source data.

Ownership and open source

The content and design of this website belong to Parikh Labs. The site includes open-source software and fonts under their own licences: ZXing-C++ (Apache License 2.0) via zxing-wasm (MIT), the GS1 Digital Link Toolkit (Apache License 2.0), and the Atkinson Hyperlegible Next and Familjen Grotesk typefaces (SIL Open Font License 1.1). ISBN range data comes from the International ISBN Agency.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Parikh Labs is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the scanner, lookups, the demo or this website, including losses from payments, links or decisions made based on scan results. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
